COLOMBO — For nearly three years, Irfan Abdul had been saving up to upgrade his three-wheel taxi to a four-wheeler. When Sri Lanka’s vehicle import ban was finally lifted last month, he was elated — but the joy was short lived as the vehicle of his dreams had more than doubled in price.
“Owning a car has been my biggest dream,” said Abdul. “When I drive a car, I feel it will bring respect to my family. But now the dream is completely out of reach.”
