FUKUI, Japan — Japan will open its first university division dedicated to the study of dinosaurs in April. In partnership with the nation’s premier dinosaur museum, students at Fukui Prefectural University will engage in extensive fieldwork in the region, use cutting-edge digital technology and learn from insights shared by international researchers to explore the age of dinosaurs.
Seven years after the initial concept was proposed at the university in 2018, the Faculty of Dinosaur Paleontology will finally be launched. Fukui prefecture is where most new species of dinosaur fossils are discovered in Japan, and the key feature of the faculty is a strong collaboration with the renowned Fukui Prefectural Dinosaur Museum.
