Protesters in Congo’s Kinshasa attack embassies of France, Rwanda, Belgium and US

BAKU, Azerbaijan, January 28. Protesters
attacked the embassies of France, Rwanda, Belgium, and the US in
the capital of the Democratic Republic of Congo, Kinshasa, Trend reports.

According to information, the protests occurred against the
background of aggravation of the situation in the east of the
country, where rebels from the M23 group captured the city of Goma
as a result of a lightning offensive.

The tensions have brought “life to a standstill” in parts of
Kinshasa, with schools and stores reported to be closed.

Meanwhile, the UN reported that armed clashes in the town of
Goma, which is at the epicenter of the tension, have left hundreds
of people injured, with dead bodies found in the streets and a
sharp rise in sexual violence. A mass exodus of locals has started
from the area.

At least 17 international peacekeepers were killed in the
fighting between M23 rebels and the Congolese army.
