TOKYO — Japanese Prime Minister Shigeru Ishiba said on Tuesday that he is trying to arrange a meeting with U.S. President-elect Donald Trump to discuss various matters including issues relating to Northeast Asia.
“It is extremely important to agree on basic perceptions about the regional situation and economy as well,” he said at a news conference. “To take the Japan-U.S. alliance to new heights, it is important to be on the same page about Northeast Asia.”
