Chinese CRRC manufactures new mainline diesel locomotive for Kazakhstan

ASTANA, Kazakhstan, November 14. The
Chinese company CRRC has manufactured a new mainline diesel
locomotive for Kazakhstan, Trend reports.

The TЭ36A series locomotives were produced in Chinese
Dalian to order for Kazakhstan’s national carrier, Kazakhstan
Railways (Kazakhstan Temir Zholy, KTZ).

The first two locomotives are expected to arrive in
Kazakhstan in December, after which they will undergo
certification. Previously, mainline locomotives from China were
supplied to Kazakhstan before the implementation of the unified
technical regulation TR TS 001/2011.

This model was specially developed by CRRC for KTZ
based on the Fuxing platform. The six-axle (3-0-3) TЭ36A locomotive
is equipped with a 12-cylinder 12V265C diesel engine, producing 3.5
MW of power. It is claimed that the fuel consumption is 198 g/kWh,
and the maximum speed is 120 km/h.

The agreement between CRRC and KTZ was signed in 2023
and includes the supply of 100 mainline and 100 shunting
locomotives, as well as the establishment of engineering and
service centers in Kazakhstan. The delivery of shunting locomotives
CKD6S began this summer.

It is expected that in mid-December the locomotive
will arrive at the Dostyk border station and be handed over for
testing to KTZ representatives. The Chinese side plans to complete
the contract by the end of 2026.
