Japan exports post first decline in eight months on Trump tariffs


TOKYO — Japan’s exports declined for the first time since September as shipments to America, its biggest export destination, plunged after the effects of U.S. President Donald Trump’s sweeping tariffs kicked in.

Overall outbound shipments fell 1.7% year on year in May, according to data published by the Ministry of Finance on Wednesday. Those to the U.S. were down 11.1%.
