India’s new breed of offshore office brings relief for tech workers


BENGALURU — Multinational companies running offshore offices in India are emerging as white knights for local software talent, as homegrown technology companies slow down hiring amid a tough business environment. 

In recent years, hundreds of such offices — known as “global capability centers” — have sprung up in India’s technology hubs such as Bengaluru, Hyderabad and Pune, where more than a million workers develop technologies critical to multinational businesses, such as artificial intelligence, as well as provide accounting and operations support. Their spread has sparked a rush for talent, with hiring outpacing homegrown software exporters that are currently grappling with the fallout of the global trade war.
