‘It’s tragic’: Myanmar quake survivors describe slow pace of relief

MANDALAY, Myanmar — Min Lwin Oo says he is only alive because he was not at Friday prayers in the village mosque with his relatives when the 7.7-magnitude earthquake struck Myanmar on March 28.

“I was selling goods at the market in Sagaing city at the time,” said the 41-year-old who lives in Bone Oh, about 15 kilometers from downtown Mandalay, the city nearest the epicenter of the disaster that killed more than 3,650 people and injured 4,500 others. “I was able to flee quickly, which is why I survived.”
