TOKYO — Japan’s economy expanded at an annualized 3% in February versus the previous month as companies rushed to export goods overseas before U.S. tariffs kicked in, according to an estimate released by the Japan Center for Economic Research (JCER) on Wednesday.
Japanese exports of goods and services grew 7.5% in February, versus the previous month, with some companies racing to front-load shipments ahead of the U.S. levies. In early February, President Donald Trump announced the imposition of additional levies on imports of steel and aluminum, starting in March.
