JAKARTA — Electric motorbike makers are launching new models in Indonesia, as they struggle to secure a slice of the country’s huge two-wheeler market in the face of rising competition and customer wariness.
With 126 million motorbikes and mopeds on its roads, Indonesia is the world’s third-largest market for two-wheelers after India and China. Lured by the huge market, electric scooter makers dominated by Chinese and local players have entered Southeast Asia’s largest economy over the past few years, with more than 20 brands offering at least 58 models as of last year.
