HONG KONG — Hong Kong’s oldest political party and one of the city’s last remaining pro-democracy forces is set to disband, the latest sign that even moderate opposing voices have lost their breathing room in an ever-tightening national security environment.
The Democratic Party of Hong Kong held an executive meeting Thursday evening, deciding to establish a special committee to start the dissolution procedure, which requires a three-fourths majority vote of party members at the general assembly. There currently are about 400 members, according to the party.
