Indonesia Battery Corp. seeks non-Chinese partners as U.S. tariff risk looms

JAKARTA — Indonesia Battery Corp. is looking to forge new partnerships with Japanese and South Korean companies amid slow progress of its joint projects with Chinese battery giant CATL and in the face of U.S. tariff risks.

Toto Nugroho, chief executive of IBC, told Nikkei Asia that the state-owned company was having discussions with Japanese battery maker Panasonic for a joint electric-vehicle battery project. He said securing such a collaboration “will be key to supplying the U.S. market,” in the backdrop of Donald Trump’s return to the U.S. presidency and his fresh tariff threats against China.
