SEOUL — South Korea’s corruption investigation agency has asked police to arrest impeached President Yoon Suk Yeol as the authorities failed to take him into custody after a standoff last week with the presidential security detail.
The Corruption Investigation Office for High-ranking Officials (CIO) said on Monday that it sent a letter to police on Sunday night to give them authority to execute the arrest warrant on Yoon, who is currently suspended from office while his impeachment is adjudicated by the Constitutional Court.
