Japan’s LEOC to hire 1,000 skilled workers a year from Southeast Asia

TOKYO — Japanese hospital and corporate canteen operator LEOC will hire 1,000 “specified skilled” foreign workers annually from the Philippines, Myanmar and other Southeast Asian countries, likely making it Japan’s largest recruiter using the special worker visa program.

LEOC provides cooking services at over 3,000 canteens with nearly 50 logistics centers as of April this year. The Tokyo-based company is a member of Onodera Group, a food services conglomerate that operates high-end sushi restaurants and has affiliate firms in the U.S. and China. The group recently acquired the century-old Japanese restaurant operator Nadaman from Asahi Group Holdings.
